Population growth rate: 3.2%
Population < 15 years: 48 %
Birth rate: 42 per 1000
Life expectancy at birth: 66 years
Infant mortality: 49 per 1000
Prevalence of Goiter/ UIE

A 2001 survey of school children found TGR 60%, but VGR only 0.4%.
No data on urine iodine concentration
Iodized salt Coverage
Household iodized salt use: 90%
Salt Situation Analysis Production
Little data but most/all salt imported from Cameroon , Nigeria , others.
Consumption
- Estimated daily per capita salt consumption: no data
- Estimated % of all salt consumed by people which is adequately iodized (household level): no data

Program Monitoring and Evaluation
A National Micronutrient Deficiency Control Program exists, and a National Technical Commission supervises and coordinates importation of salt.
Sentinel posts have been set up in all districts to monitor iodized salt consumption.
Nutrition status assessed by goiter palpation.
Plans exist for clinical and biological evaluations and to create an IDD monitoring and surveillance system in schools.
Other Interventions
None
